Charles Gardner has 25 years’ experience in the UK real estate investment market as a client, at The Crown Estate, and as an advisor. He is passionate about asset management and founded Goshawk to advise investors and developers. Goshawk draws upon a breadth of knowledge and relationships to provide specialist asset management advice. Investment Property Databank (IPD), an acknowledged world leader in the performance analysis of real estate, recognises Goshawk’s expertise. IPD invited Goshawk to collaborate on its inaugural report to define and quantify asset management. The Goshawk IPD Asset Management Report is published in 2014.
Goshawk projects tend to be complex. Charles Gardner will put together a team to solve asset management problems but is equally happy to work within a team that has already been appointed. Charles understands and values the close bond between clients and their trusted advisors.
Goshawk may recommend a client challenges the status quo of a team, if this is needed to make a difference. In this circumstance, Goshawk helps to ensure that best-in-class specialists are appointed, and able to contribute to the best of their ability in solving problems, managing risk and delivering increased returns.
In recent years, Charles Gardner has concentrated on the office sector and urban mixed use properties, developing particular expertise in these areas. Charles was appointed as The Crown Estate’s first Head of Office Portfolio in 2004, a central London portfolio which outperformed IPD under his stewardship. The British Council for Offices appointed Charles as a judge on regional and national panels, on which he was privileged to serve for several years from 2006 onward.
Before founding Goshawk, Charles was a Partner at Carter Jonas. Previously he spent 18 years at Gerald Eve in the West End as a Partner and Head of Fund Management. His principal pension fund client was the best performing fund in the IPD Universe over ten years to 2002. Charles is a Chartered Surveyor, and Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
